A step-by-step set of preschool worksheets will introduce new challenges to your child – skills and concepts they have not yet learnt. With your support and encouragement, your child will learn these new skills, achieve their goals, and gain confidence that will be vital when they start kindergarten or school. Starting ’big school’ brings a lot of changes into a child’s life, and your child needs to believe that he or she can face new challenges and cope well.
Other activities for kindergarten include jigsaw puzzles. There are also worksheets that teach children about some biblical characters, and how to help a community. These activities are not limited to individual work. There are also worksheets that require a group effort to finish the task. This way, children learn to work in a team. This is a very effective group activity in helping them realize the importance of cooperation and teamwork.
Kindergarten should be fun. And teaching kindergarten can be fun too. But as any good kindergarten teacher would well understand, it can be an extremely active experience. A kindergarten teacher has to get fully involved and involve children with lots of interesting kindergarten activities, worksheets and exercises, that would hold their attention and make it an enjoyable experience for them.
It will help if the worksheets are well-illustrated. Use of cartoon characters would make it more interesting for a child. Encapsulating common situations encountered at home, school, in the market place etc and using common objects known to children would make the worksheets more relevant. Try to supplement each worksheet with a real-life activity. For example after a worksheet on counting, you can ask the child to pick out 3 biscuits and 2 carrots from many.
The learning should be real-worldly. It is easiest to learn and remember when whatever is learned is immediately applied to a practical, real-life situation. You should use every opportunity to teach and regularly reinforce basic concepts taught, in real-life and in real-time. For instance, during snack-time, if a child is eating a biscuit, you can say – ’B’ for ’biscuit’. While waiting for a school van, you can say – ’V’ for ’Van’ and so on.
